We compared all 63 two-person and extra-wide freestanding tubs we carry, across five materials, using their real prices.

Insulated acrylic: the most tub for two per dollar
Acrylic is where "made for two" is the rule rather than the exception: 16 of the 18 acrylic models in our two-person range are built extra wide, from the 60" Brynn at $1,349 to the 74" Marion and Pasco. Every one has an insulated shell, which closes most of the heat-retention gap with heavier materials. It is also the lightest option, which matters on an upper floor. The trade-off is feel: acrylic is warm to the touch but doesn't have the weight or sound of stone or metal. A good example is the 72" Extra Wide Crofton double-slipper at $1,799.
Copper: heat that lasts, and a finish that changes over time
Copper is the biggest group (33 models) and the widest price spread, from the compact 48" Samteka clawfoot at $2,395 to the 72" x 40" Extra Wide Arcadia at $4,695. Copper holds heat longer than any other material here, so a long soak for two stays warm. The outside develops a living patina, and many models offer a nickel or enamel interior if you prefer a bright, easy-clean inside. Price climbs with hammering, finish (antique, verdigris, nickel) and width, so an extra-wide copper tub for two costs roughly twice an extra-wide acrylic one. Stone resin: a solid, matte stone look
Solid-surface stone resin gives the look and feel of carved stone at a fraction of the weight of real stone. It holds heat very well and has a smooth matte finish that is easy to refresh. Our five two-person models run from the 74" Bombay double-slipper at $1,995 to the 72" Extra Wide Bandon at $2,999. It is heavy, so plan the delivery path and floor support.
Cast iron: the traditional heavyweight
Cast iron with an enamel interior is the classic roll-top look, with excellent heat retention and a finish that lasts decades. Our four double-ended and double-slipper models run $1,595 to $2,149 at 71" to 72". It is the heaviest option by a wide margin: confirm your floor can take a filled tub with two people in it before you order, and expect a freight delivery that needs several people to move into place.
Stainless steel: the widest modern shape
All three stainless steel models are 72" x 40", the full extra-wide size, in polished or matte finishes from $2,795 to $2,995. They suit a modern or industrial bathroom and won't patina like copper. Heat retention is moderate, so they suit shorter soaks or a room that stays warm.
How to choose
- On a budget, or on an upper floor: insulated acrylic.
- Long soaks, and the tub is the centerpiece: copper.
- A stone look without real stone's weight: stone resin.
- A traditional bathroom and a ground floor: cast iron.
- A modern room and maximum width: stainless steel.
