How to Install a Widespread Bathroom Faucet
A widespread faucet has three separate pieces — a spout and two handles — rather than one unified base, which means the installation has a few extra steps compared to a single-hole or centerset faucet. (Not sure which finish to choose? See our guide to bathroom faucet finishes.)
1. Confirm Your Sink's Center Spacing
Widespread faucets are sized by the distance between the hot and cold handle holes, commonly 8 inches on center. Measure your sink or countertop's existing holes before ordering to make sure the faucet's adjustable center bar covers that span.
2. Install the Spout and Handles From Above
Insert the spout and each handle through their respective mounting holes from the top of the sink or counter, then secure each one from below with the included mounting hardware and washers.
3. Connect the Linking Tubes
Most widespread faucets use flexible linking tubes that connect each handle to the spout body underneath the counter. Attach these according to the included diagram — hot to hot, cold to cold.
4. Connect the Supply Lines
Attach the faucet's flexible supply lines to your shutoff valves, hand-tightening first and then giving a final snug turn with a wrench. Avoid overtightening, which can damage the compression fittings.
5. Turn On Water and Check for Leaks
Turn the shutoff valves back on slowly, run both hot and cold water, and check every connection underneath the sink for drips.
