Freestanding floor-mount tub faucet with hand shower

How to Install a Freestanding Tub Faucet

A freestanding tub faucet mounts to the floor next to the tub rather than to the tub deck or wall, which means the plumbing runs up through the floor at a specific point relative to the tub's final position.

1. Confirm the Tub's Final Position First

Since the faucet's rough-in location is fixed once the floor is finished, you need to know exactly where the freestanding tub will sit before roughing in the plumbing. Measure from the tub's filler location (usually marked by the manufacturer) to determine where the faucet valve needs to come up through the floor.

2. Rough In the Supply Lines

Hot and cold supply lines run beneath the floor to the faucet's mounting point, typically finishing with a valve or rough-in kit that the finished faucet body will later thread onto.

3. Finish the Floor Around the Rough-In

Complete your flooring, leaving the rough-in valve accessible at the marked point.

4. Install the Faucet Body and Riser

Thread the visible faucet column onto the rough-in valve, following the manufacturer's instructions for securing it to the floor and sealing around the base.

5. Position the Tub and Test

Move the tub into its final position relative to the faucet, connect the hand shower or spout components, turn on the water, and check for leaks at every connection.

What to Check Before You Buy

  • Confirm your tub's exact filler location before finalizing the rough-in plumbing
  • Check the faucet's reach to make sure it clears the tub's rim properly
  • Decide whether you want a hand shower attachment included
