Choosing the Right Size Bathroom Mirror for Your Vanity
A mirror that's too small or too large for your vanity throws off the whole look of a bathroom. Here's how to size it correctly.
The Basic Sizing Rule
A good starting point is choosing a mirror 2 to 4 inches narrower than your vanity's total width on each side, so it sits centered with a small margin of counter and wall visible on both sides.
Single-Sink Vanities
For a single-sink vanity, center one mirror over the sink. If your vanity is on the wider side (42 inches or more) with an off-center sink, center the mirror over the sink basin itself rather than the vanity's midpoint.
Double-Sink Vanities
For double-sink vanities, you have two main options: one wide mirror spanning most of the vanity width, or two individual mirrors centered over each sink with a gap between them. Two mirrors tend to look more intentional and give each person their own defined space.
Height Considerations
Standard mirror height typically runs from just above the faucet or backsplash up to a few inches below any ceiling light or soffit. If you're adding a medicine cabinet instead of a plain mirror, factor in its full door height plus clearance to open it.
LED Mirrors and Sizing
